After 3 months, Newsday's web site gets 35 subscribers Via Boing Boing

Boing Boing

This is laughable.

Newspapers talking about charging for online access.  Every internet pundit said it wont work.  Every journalist said it work, the tech columnists said it wont work, the marketers said it wont work.

So inevitably, someone tried it anyway.  And surprise, it’s failing.  They’ve gotten a whopping 35 subscribers, who are willing to pay $5/week for online access to a paper.  it cost them over $4,000,000 to overhaul the website.   what makes this worse is that with subscriptions falling, advertising will soon fall as well
