Brilliantly simple

Stirling Engine Motherboard Fans Powered by Waste Chip Heat - Boing Boing Gadgets

MSI is currently toying with the idea of using miniature Stirling engines that is, a engine that uses heat as it's source of power. the idea is you clamp this to the CPu or other various chips, and use part of the heat these components generate, to power the very fans that cool the system :)
